2021 Silverado

In today’s increasingly competitive full-size truck segment, auto manufacturers are consistently looking for innovative new ideas to give them an edge. Horsepower numbers, max towing capacity figures and fuel efficiency specs between comparable trims from competing manufacturers is akin to splitting hairs. The margins between them are often so close, that it’s hardly justifiable to select one particular model over the other. So it comes down to the minute details—the innovative features and technologies that enable owners to truly connect with their truck and feel confident in their buying decisions.

For the upcoming model year, Chevrolet engineers went back to the drawing board in an attempt to make the Silverado even more appealing to audiences who by now believe they have seen it all. In true “sit back and hold my beverage” fashion, Chevrolet engineers have added a new Multi-Flex Tailgate to the Silverado for the 2021 model year that is sure to make you the center of the party at any future tailgating event.

Nearly a quarter of the way through the 21st century, we’ve certainly come a long way from the days when tailgates merely served as the gatekeeper to prohibit contents from the pickup bed from spilling out onto the road. For more than 50 years, it’s true that consumers really haven’t asked for much from their tailgate. But in this new era of innovation and technology, you have to stand out from the crowd.

Available Built-In Bluetooth Kicker Sound System

The 2021 Silverado’s Multi-Flex Tailgate will certainly enable you to do just that. With a Kicker sound system integrated directly into the inner tailgate panel featuring two four-inch coaxial drivers and a waterproof amp, no tailgating event or camping trip will go without tunes. The system pumps out over 100 watts of power and is controllable via the built-in buttons in the inner tailgate.

While its available Bluetooth music station is certainly a highlight, the Silverado’s Multi-Flex tailgate isn’t merely just for show. With six unique functions, the tailgate also allows for easier access to contents in the bed, enhanced loading solutions and folding out into a standing workstation.

Simplified Cargo Management

The tailgate’s six configurable positions can be activated via the keyfob or the two tailgate-mounted buttons. The first position, Primary Gate Access, is standard tailgate operation—the same way it’s been done since the early Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks. The second position, Primary Gate Load Stop, is activated when the primary tailgate is lowered and a smaller front section is raised to keep items from sliding out of the bed. This gives you more than two feet of additional cargo length, which is particularly handy when loading lumber.

The third position, Foldable Inner Gate for Easy Access, allows for the inner gate to fold down, making loading and unloading cargo from the bed a far less cumbersome task as you won’t have to reach as far. The fourth position, Full-Width Step, allows the inner gate to fold down into a full width step that can support up to 375 lbs. The fifth position, Inner Gate Load Stop, prevents second tier items from sliding out of the bed, while the sixth position, Inner Gate Work Surface, reveals a stand-up desk as the inner gate is opened outward.

Availability and Pricing

The Multi-Flex Tailgate will be available in early 2021 on all Silverado trim levels—from the Work Truck to the High Country. The 2021 Silverado is available with three different bed lengths—Short (69.92 in.), Standard (79.44 in.) and Long (98.18 in.). Pricing has yet to be announced for the Multi-Flex Tailgate.
