1. Explore Lake Wedington Recreation Area

Take a drive to the beautiful Lake Wedington Recreation Area at 15592 Lake Wedington Entry Road in Fayetteville and spend the day surrounded by nature. Hike or bike through the 434-acre lush hardwood forest on 31 miles of nature trails past scenic waterfalls and along the shores of the 102-acre Lake Wedington. Paddle, boat, and fish in the lake for largemouth and spotted bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, bream, crappie, and channel catfish.

The lake and the surrounding woodlands attract wildlife, and on the trails, you will spot deer, wild turkeys, and waterfowl around the lake and hear songbirds in the trees. In winter, eagles soar in the sky over the forest.

2. Take a Scenic Drive Up Mount Nebo

A Chevy SUV will come in handy to drive to the top of the 1,350-foot Mount Nebo. The road up the mountain is steep and twisty with a few tight switchbacks, but the view over the Arkansas River Valley below is breathtaking when you reach the top. Hike or mountain bike down 14 miles of scenic trails and take a closer look at the beautiful rustic cabins, pavilions, and bridges built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

Cool off in the swimming pool, play a game of tennis, and enjoy a picturesque picnic at one of the many scenic picnic spots. Mount Nebo State Park is at 16728 West State Highway 155, just outside Dardanelle. The Visitor’s Center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Drive Down the Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway

Pack a few of your favorite snacks in your Chevy and hit the road to Clarksville for a scenic drive down the Ozark Highlands Scenic Byway to the northern boundary near the Upper Buffalo Wilderness and Buffalo National River in Newton County. The windy road cuts through a rugged forested section of the Boston Mountain range and offers incredible scenery.

4. Go on a Historical Trip to Little Rock

The long drive to the state’s capital is well worth the trip to spend the day learning more about the history and culture of Arkansas. Hop on a Little Rock Yellow Streetcar to see all the downtown sites and hop off at various attractions along the way. Admire the beautiful neo-classical style ornate marble and limestone Arkansas State Capitol with its gold leaf 213 feet cupola.

Visit the Old State House, the oldest state capitol building west of the Mississippi River. This National Historic Landmark is of enormous historical and cultural significance and displays exhibits reflecting the culture and history of Arkansas. Stroll through the Arkansas Air and Military to learn more about Arkansas aviation history. The museum is in a former World War II aviation training post, and many historic aircraft can still take to the sky.

Explore the beautiful region and have loads of outdoor fun in breathtaking surroundings. Pop in at Orr Chevrolet of Fort Smith today and ask a qualified Chevrolet technician to service your vehicle before you hit the road.
