Fort Smith Museum of History

If you’d like an educational day trip, load up the family in your comfy, three-row Chevy Traverse and head to one of Fort Smith’s most popular attractions. The Fort Smith Museum of History, located on Rogers Ave, is a must-see for anyone interested in the city’s history and the surrounding region. The museum is located in a four-story red brick building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It houses more than 40,000 artifacts chronicling the city’s past.

The museum also features several hands-on exhibits, making it a great place to take the family. While you’re there, experience a 1920s soda fountain and enjoy ice cream sundaes and other fun treats from a working soda machine. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or just passing through, a visit to the Fort Smith Museum of History will give you a new appreciation for the area’s rich history.

The Clayton House

The Clayton House is a historic home in Fort Smith built in 1876. Visitors can learn about the early days of Fort Smith, when it was a frontier town, and the city’s development during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Clayton House is a great place to learn more about the history of Arkansas and the American West.

Clayton house is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture and is furnished with many original items. This historic mansion is open to the public for tours and is popular for weddings, receptions, and other special events.  

Fort Smith Farmer’s Market

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday morning, head over to the Fort Smith Farmer’s Market! Take your Chevy Traverse, and you’re guaranteed to have room for all of your groceries! With the most cargo space of any midsize SUV, you’ll have room for packages and any passengers you bring along. This shopper’s paradise is seasonal and open from 7 am to noon every Wednesday and Saturday.

The farmer’s market features a variety of local vendors selling fresh produce, meat, and more. It’s also a great place to find unique gifts, such as hand-crafted jewelry and pottery. The Fort Smith Farmer’s Market is an excellent way to support local businesses and get some fresh air. You’ll find it in the municipal parking lot at North 2nd Street & Garrison Avenue.

Miss Laura’s Visitor Center

Miss Laura’s Visitor Center is a great place to learn more about the fascinating history of the American West. The visitor center, also called Miss Laura’s Social Club, is located in a historic building that was once a brothel! This fully restored Victorian mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open for tours.
