Arkansas River

The river winding itself around Fort Smith is the first stop for many local angling enthusiasts. Along the river banks, you can find excellent places to unfold your comfy chair and enjoy a few hours catching various fish.

Some great spots for catching fish in the Arkansas River are Harry E. Keller River Park, Carol Ann Cross Park, Fort Smith Park, Sandy Cove, and Lee Creek Park to the north of town. There are also several locks and dams along the river that create wonderful pools for easy angling. In the slow-flowing river waters, you’ll find many stripes, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, catfish, trout, and more.

Torraine Lake

This attractive, secluded lake to the south of town is teeming with fish and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. After a morning of angling for bass and other species, you can stroll along the many great trails surrounding the lake, enjoying eye-catching features like a traditional old water pump and a gushing waterfall.

You’ll find the Torraine Lake at 10000 Chad Colley Boulevard. Take the short drive down in your brand-new 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Put your rods, tackle bags, picnic, and folding seat on the spacious rear cabin seats or in the ample cargo bed and enjoy the lovely views on the way to the lake.

Wells Lake

Also to the south of Fort Smith, there lies another pretty lake that’s a terrific family-friendly spot for angling. This 12-acre man-made lake is kept well-stocked with channel catfish, red-ear sunfish, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and bluegill. The fish are restocked in February each year.

Since its creation in the 1940s, Wells Lake has been a popular place for locals to gather and fish, and it remains so to this day. Everyone is welcome; if you don’t have your own poles and tackle boxes, you can borrow them at the lake. Find Wells Lake at 8300 Wells Lake Road. It’s situated right beside the AGFC River Valley Nature Center, which is a fantastic spot of natural beauty to explore after a satisfying afternoon by the shores of the lake.
