When it comes to mid-sized pickups, the 2025 Chevy Colorado simply can’t be beat. This four-door pickup can easily handle off-roading while providing good power on the highway and a smooth ride around town.

1. Engine, Transmission, and Performance
All of the Chevy Colorado’s models come with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, making for 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. These numbers are comparable or beat other mid-size pickups with a V-6 engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard. The independent front suspension coupled with a solid rear axle with leaf springs makes for a smooth ride around town and on the highway.
2. Off-Road Capabilities
It’s an understatement to say that the Chevy Colorado is a capable off-road truck. The base model WT comes with 17-inch Ultra Silver Metallic steel wheels and 7.9 inches of ground clearance. The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trim packages come with added upgrades to enhance off-road performance. These include more traction on loose surfaces like mud, gravel, or deep snow. They also include a Terrain Mode for tackling steep hills and crawling over obstacles.
The Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition package offers the highest off-road performance of all the Colorado trims. It sports monster 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a maximum ground clearance of 12.2 inches, and a Baja Mode feature that optimizes power delivery, stability, and traction control when driving over sandy terrain.
3. Towing and Payload Capacities
The Chevy Colorado is not just a fun off-roading vehicle. It’s a working truck too. It has the highest towing capacity in its mid-size pickup class, coming in at 7,700 pounds. Its maximum payload capacity is 1,886 pounds.
4. Fuel Economy
The rear-wheel drive Colorado WT has an EPA-estimated mileage of 20 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The all-wheel drive Colorado clocks in at 18 mpg city and 22 mpg highway.
5. Interior, Comfort, and Infotainment
The four-door five-passenger Colorado has a modern interior that was upgraded in this third generation. It has good legroom in both the front and rear seats. The centerpiece of the dash is the 11.3-inch touchscreen for the iinfotainment system. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, along with two USB ports and a pair of 12-volt outlets. A Google navigation and music system is also available. A six-speaker stereo system is standard, with a premium Bose audio system available in higher trims.
6. Safety
Chevy offers a generous package of safety options for the Colorado. Blind zone steering assist, lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, and automated emergency braking are all standard. Adaptive cruise control is also available.
