Since 1901, the Fort Smith Museum of History has been a great place to check out the cultural, political, and economic development in the area. Kids can grab a treat at the old-fashioned soda fountain or enjoy looking at the vintage automobiles that once drove around the local streets. An old-time pharmacy and 19th-century woodworking shop are some of the other historical sights on offer.

2. Parrot Island Waterpark

Parrot Island Waterpark is a great place for the whole family to cool off on those hot Arkansas summer months. Caribbean Splash, the 85,000-gallon wave pool, the 500 foot Crocodile Creek Lazy River, and Tiny Turtle Island with its climbing toys, waterfalls, and water slides provide the perfect setting for a day out with the family. Pineapple Plunge or Pelican Plunge offer something for older kids and the more adventurous thrillseekers.
